Whether it’s outdoor events, festivals, parties, weddings, birthdays, night life, or any other type of occasion, we are the perfect band to help you rock it. We are a group of very enthusiastic musicians. Not to mention we are all family and friends, and our on-stage chemistry is always evident. Each with our own array of different musical influences and abilities, when you mix all of our different tastes, we are able to combine our love of all this music and create the best live music experience possible. With an ever growing song list and hours of music already under our belt, we have the variety that allows us to play music you can rock out to, dance to, party to, drink to and all around have a great time.
Shaine Covell
With an absolutely dynamic vocal talent, Shaine stands as possibly one of the best female vocalists in our area. Her virtuosity and versatility are unquestionable and we are lucky to be able to make music with someone at her level. Shaine brings everything you would want from a lead singer to the table. She has the presence, the energy and the skill to captivate a crowd and keep people coming back to see us. You truly have to hear her to appreciate her talent.
Rich Covell
Rich is the musician that musicians want to be. With mastery of a variety of instruments including piano, guitar, drums, harmonica and sometimes even the recorder, just to name a few. Rich is a front man unto himself, and thats just because he can’t play all the instruments at the same time. Combined with the years of musical chemistry that he has with Shaine, there is always something interesting happening. Not to mention the powerhouse of a vocalist that Rich is as well. Rich can capture the essence of many of the best male vocalists of all time.
Joe McCarthy
Joe stands as one of the areas most distinctive guitarists pound for pound. With nearly a life time of learning and playing all the music that inspired him from a very young age, Joe brings a unique tone and quality to the music of the band, lending a sound that makes Welcome Distraction sound like Welcome Distraction. Having fronted several bands along the way, Joe’s vocal abilities round out the harmonies that distinguish Welcome Distraction as having some of the best vocals in the area. Also a multi-instrumentalist, Joe plays the Banjo, Piano, Harmonica and dabbles with other instruments as well.
Brian McCarthy
Brian has spent years learning his craft from some of the areas most notable drummers. With some of the most dynamic drumming skills in the area, Brian is the heartbeat of our band. He’s the reason you’ll always find yourself tapping your feet while you’re listening to us and he too is well versed in other instruments. Brian draws his influence from a litany of drummers and uses the skills that he has learned from listening to them to tie everything together and punctuate the music that we all love to play.
Jimmy Kanalley
If Brian is the heartbeat of our band, that would mean that Jimmy is the backbone. Drawing from a host of bass influences, Jimmy brings the warmth and tone of Motown and the rhythm of soul and blues to our band. Jimmy plays it low profile, but he is a forced to be reckoned with. If there ever was a pocket bassist, this is the guy. Not only does Jimmy bring the low end with his instrument, but also with his voice as well. Jimmy lays the foundation for our band’s harmonies with his low baritone. Jimmy is also the guy who makes the gears turn, handling much of our booking and scheduling. Well versed and personable, he’s definitely one of the most pleasant guys you’ll want to deal with when it comes to setting up musical entertainment for your venue!
